Briana Ellis-Gibbs has worked as photo editor at NBC, The Wall Street Journal and Lonely Planet and written extensively on photography, history, and art for various publications, such as CNN Style, The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, and more. Additionally, she taught photography at Press Pass NYC, where she mentors and educates high school students on the ethics and practice of photojournalism.
She holds a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY with focus in arts and culture where she specialized in arts and culture reporting, and a BA from Howard University.
She has received multiple honors and awards for her work, including the Anne O’Hare McCormick Memorial Scholarship, the Ralph and Fanny Ellison Scholarship, the NABJ Salute to Excellence Award, and the Mark J. Edelson Picture Editing Scholarship.
Briana currently works on the photo desk at The Guardian, and is open to freelance writing gigs and full time photo editing positions.
